South Island Road Trip * a lesson in delayed gratification

Wednesday, May 7, 2014

"What can I do? I am hungry! how much longer?"
In the late 1960's the Stanford Marshmallow Experiment found that children who were able to wait longer for the preferred rewards tended to have better life outcomes.

We decided to do some delayed gratification "research" of our own... with four kids on a 12 day, 2900 mile road trip. This is what it looked like a lot of the time.

The final photo exemplify parenting at it's finest... yes, our one year old is fast asleep with a bar of chocolate in his hand. Don't judge - you have no idea what it was like in there. We were lucky to make it out alive.

"WHAT CAN I DO? I AM HUNGRY! HOW MUCH LONGER?"

Surrender... Sleep

Victory... then sleep
